Dead Season – Zombie Movie review

When a worldwide viral outbreak leads to a plague of zombies scouring the earth for the living, two survivors flee the chaos of America to a remote island, hoping for a chance to start a new life. What they find is unrelenting horror. Beyond the hordes of the flesh-hungry undead, the other people already on the island force the pair into a fight-or-die battle amongst themselves. Armed only with crude weapons, they must descend to savagery and cutthroat tactics just to make it through each day

I didn’t know anything about this movie before I picked it up and I have to say I was really surprised – budget wise this one definitely ranks over the made for TV Sy Fy channel “I am Omega” and ” Zombie Apocalypse” type of Zombie films but not as big as say I am Legend or the Dawn of the Dead remake. Visually its a stunning film too – supposedly set on some small Island off the Coast of Miami (I think it is actually shot in Southern California though ;-) ) Lots of beaches and sunsets going on – almost be a travel documentary ha ha if in this world it hadn’t all turned to shit.

In Dead Season the Zombies on the whole are slow movers – with a few exceptions (not saying where or when….) and the effects are decently done – Like I said this isn’t some Zombie film financed by someone’s credit card and while some purists may scoff that they are not up to their incredibly high standard they are still passable for the film.

The actors are pretty good too – I swear when you watch the film you are going to think I have seen some of them before but you can’t put your finger on it – most of the acting is far beyond the “local theater group” standard of some Zombie films but not world beating – that said I had no problem with any of the actors and the cast did a great job of “selling” the story.

There are some decent and original Zombie kills in this film there are some guns in the film but bullets are limited so a lot of the survivors use Sledge hammers and machetes, notable highlights include the naked Zombie woman on the cliff and the “pepsi” machine Zombie kill – always nice to see some new twists as opposed to just “mindless, endless head shots…

All in all this is a pretty damn good film and I reckon you won’t be disappointed checking it out – so make sure you do watch it – here is the trailer:
